Went back again and our experience was completely opposite. Cabbage rolls were so tough you couldn't cut through them. Beer on tap: grapefruit flavored and Shandy, only 2. Maybe a bad day? Notvsure, off to a different place our next visit.

Our family visited this restaurant last weekend and loved it. We had been going here for years (before the new owners took over) and we were worried they may have changed it too much. No worries there! The bar is still the best (in my opinion) in Hot Springs and the food is delicious. We ordered hot pretzels with a cheese sauce as an appetizer. Schnitzel was great. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

We waited several months to let the restaurant get their legs underneath them before trying this place out. There were three of us for dinner in the main dining room and immediately we noticed a cosmetic improvement over the old place. New floors, light fixtures, fresh paint and the pong of damp mildew is gone. We were asked if we wanted to sit near the band or away. We asked to sit away, which was a great choice because even far away from the band they were overwhelmingly loud. All conversation had to halt while they played. As for the food, my friend said it best, "This would be an amazing experience if everything on my plate was edible." The Good: Our waitress was polite to a fault and always on hand. The food made elsewhere,ie. their variety of sausages, are amazing. The cabbage rolls were perfection. The sausage and cheese appetizer was definitely worth it. They still stock a tremendous bar, naturally. The Bad: Goulash was completely inedible - they must have poured an entire shaker of salt into it. Why? Nobody at the table could eat it, even with sour cream - returned to kitchen. Whatever they're calling Spaetzle is horrid. Remember the grey gelatinous stuff that the mother serves in Better Off Dead? Yeah, it's like that. Both mealy, and mushy and fiber-y it comes in odd thick chunks that in no way resembles the original. At the end of our meal we approached the Proprietress to compliment her on the improvements to the Brauhaus and she gave us the B-face. Very unfriendly. The three of us dropped $120 to eat. IF we return we would sit outside and be very careful about what we choose on the menu.

Cranky owner/host. Decided to leave. Got to be the wurst greeting at a restaurant. Went up street to copper penny...they were glad to see us.

Great atmosphere, great food, wonderful beer! We had the same waiter both times we went, Brett. Brett was awesome, and gave wonderful advice on beer. A must, when visiting Hot Springs, AR!

Hidden gem in a cellar-like setting. Great food, after-show service was a little slow, but the quality still earns this place 5 stars. Get the kraut cake appetizer! Authentic German music on Saturday night. If you're in Hot Springs, come here for sure. Extensive German beer list.

Everything here was amazing! We all had to taste everything and pass around plates. Kids German mac n cheese was so creamy! Do the brat, the white sausage, meatloaf, Brussels sprouts were creamy, service was so kind with our 7 kids and 4 moms

Recently updated to a smaller menu, but I think that's a good thing! We had a large group eat here for an event and the service was fantastic. Food was amazing, we all ordered different items and shared and every dish was on point. Awesome beer selection too. One of my favorite spots in Hot Springs.

It was very good. Was steered towards the bar area for a late lunch, which was fine. Until a patron put his money into the jukebox and selected every un-family friendly song it had. Eating snitzel listening to smack my bitch up and several Manson songs really didn't hit the spot. At least the food was good.

We had a great experience at this authentic German restaurant. From someone that makes my own German food at home, the food was outstanding. We had sauerkraut cakes, schnitzel and pork shanks. All were fantastic as was the service (Michelle). I highly recommend this restaurant!

What a great jewel for this tiny town in Hot Springs, AR. Nestled in the basement level of a old building you have the choice of seating inside where the atmosphere takes you into Germany. I love that's it's in the basement level like all great hidden places in Europe that wait to be discovered by the lucky tourist. Or you can sit in an open court yard outside where we brought our four legged child. Taste? Been to a few places in Germany I would say this place holds up to being authentic in taste. I had the jäger schnitzel. a favorite of mine and this one was good! the cabbage wraps were awesome as well. the beer, perfect! Will be back.

Cabbage rolls n noodle were good. It was first time to eat German food expect sausage. I wish there is this place in my town. I'm sure I will go often

Yipes! Where do I start? Most Americans do not like German food and for good reason - they've never had the good stuff. The food here was among the worst German food we have had. Cabbage Rolls too tough, sauce not authentic. Rouladen was horrible - way too tough, terrible sauce. Spatzle was dry, gravy also bad. Potato Pancakes tasteless and dry. None of this would work in a German household. These are basics that should be a foundation of any German restaurant. If you can't do these, you shouldn't be doing German. Our server was great! She tried hard. Had the manager or chef come out and discuss our meal but he just seemed to want to argue with us. On the good side, they did adjust our bill accordingly. I hate to do reviews like this especially on restaurants that are serving food that is disappearing. But, this place should not be in business serving this food.

Thumbs up all around, service, food, drink and desert all perfect. I'd definitely go again!!!

Had a great dinner. Braised red cabbage excellent, well cooked wurst not greasy, very nice spatzle light and tender. The rest of our group of 8 enjoyed their dinner; stuffed cabbage, meatloaf bites, hamburger. More importantly was the service. We were told when seated that our waitress was the only one in the dining room and there were four other tables. Our waitress was efficient and went out of her way to take care of our table and make a great birthday experience. We will return again on our next visit to Hot Springs.

While in Hot Springs for a long weekend we stumbled across a German restaurant tucked into the basement of a building that had three other eateries in it. It was Sunday night, and, as you might expect from small towns, almost everything was closed. Have to let you know it's not the easiest place to find - kind of "down the stairs and around the corner", but it's worth the effort. The venue is fairly expansive with a separate bar area. It has subdued lighting and gentle music playing in the background. We were greeted immediately by (who I think was) the owner, and he seated us in a quiet corner, which was just fine with us. Much to our surprise, the menu was loaded with authentic German dishes - too many to list here, but there is a menu on their website.. Our appetizer was stuffed Cabbage Rolls (which we loved). The meat was very nicely seasoned and the leaves were nice and tender. We had Schnitzel for dinner with a potato pancake and marinaded mushrooms - to die for! Dessert was, what else, Black Forest cake. Very rich, very chocolaty. Service was exceptional. Attentive, but not overwhelming. Needless to say, if we get back to Hot Springs we'll be returning.

Dinner with bride, brother, sis and their favs- This place has been a long time. We came here 10 years ago and again this time. Nothing really changed. Live entertainment, a couple who sang and played. Good voice, nice selections that matched the atmosphere. It was kind of slow but they asked if we had reservations. We didn't but got seated anyway. I suggest you call ahead. Nice, old building but clean. Lots of room. The service could have been better. As mentioned, they were not overwhelmed on a Saturday night. I initially ordered a beer, pilsner, and was not asked if I wanted another one until the check came. Glad we had water all the way around. The food was good! Good sized portions but not too much nor too little. I couple of take out boxes were taken out. .... along with a beer stein. Ask me about that later. For a nice evening, good food, clean store and priced really well, this is a good start.

Best most authentic German food I have had in a very long time. The service was good and she was knowledgeable about the food and the wonderful beer they have. If you want great German food and are anywhere near Hot Springs it is worth it.

I love this place, if you are a fan of good beer this is the place. Great German beer, the darks are amazing. I absolutely love the brats. Such a great experience. One thing to note, this is not fast food. When you come here plan on soaking in the whole experience, the beer, the food, the great staff, and the music. I'm already planning my next trip back.

We have dined here twice recently. First off the waitress was perfect both times. The beer menu is very impressive. I had chicken dishes both times and was not impressed either time. My comrades had beef , pork and sausage and loved it. I tasted beef roulade and next time I'm getting beef. The spaetzle was not very good it tasted like it was from a mix and not homemade. The cucumber salad was good. The prices are high for the portions and overall seems like the attempt to be German falls a little short in my book but...we will go back.

Nice place beer is awesome, and great food, fun entertainment. One out of three times, we leave because the waitress won't get there for a long time. Food so good I keep coming back.

My boyfriend and I ate here on a Sunday and were very happy with everything. We sat in the lovely outdoor space, which is what drew us to this restaurant in the first place. We were a little lost with the menu, having never eaten authentic German food, so we asked the server. He made some great suggestions. We each had a piece of fried pork in creamy sauce (I had mustard-cheese sauce and he had the bleu cheese sauce) over spatzel (noodles). I can't remember exactly what the dish was called of course. It was so delicious, fried perfectly and very rich. I wish we could have ordered beers but we had to drive afterwards. I highly suggest Steinhaus Keller!

My wife and I had dinner here tonight. We'd stopped by the yarn shop across the way earlier, and decided to come for dinner based on the Yelp reviews and pictures. It did not disappoint! Very cozy, warn space for the first freeze of the season. The service was good, and very prompt. We both really enjoyed our entrees, delicious and great portions. The atmosphere was great, kind of reminded me of a castle in Germany. And they had love music that was so much fun!!! They played lots of great music, both traditional and non-traditional but turned into polkas. Loved it!!

Came for the beer, stayed for dinner! Sat at the bar and asked about the food on the menu. Not being familiar with German food, I had a lot of questions. Everything Mandy described sounded delicious, and I decided on the pork loin, with spaetzel and potato pancake. It was excellent!!

This was a quick and fast dinner for us, but we really like this restaurant. Such a nice and quaint place. In my opinion and extremely limited experience of German food, it was well prepared and pretty authentic. The band was a nice and refreshing touch. Will come back again. The goulash soup was amazing!

Of all the places we tried during our short stay in Hot Springs, Steinhaus wins. The atmosphere was cozy and warm, the service friendly and professional, and the food and drinks authentic and tasty. We recently moved from Germany and this is one of the few places we have found with a bit of authentic German fare. Even the menu items were listed first in German (followed by an English description of course.) If we lived in Hot Springs, we would be regulars here. And... German beer, mmmmm.

Three stars for the beer and staff. Not crowded wed night took 2 hours to get food and eat it. Food, barely edible. Cheese plate comes straight from Walmart. Fries = bland. Darling had gross meat that was also boring and bland. I would just go hang in the bar any day. Awesome beer selection. Staff, again, very nice.

Such a great place! Great beer selection, not only that but they really do cater to following close to how they do things in Germany, specific glasses for specific beers, great food options, live music, and delicious desert options!

At the suggestion of our parents who ate a great German restaurant in Hot Springs, we asked our inn keeper if he had heard of it. He had and pointed us to Steinhaus Keller. While the restaurant is in the hands of new owners, we were not disappointed! The new place was great. Every course (appetizers, main and dessert) were equally delicious. Our 13 year old daughter loved is so much, she made us go back again the next night. One point, if you are a in a rush, don't bother, this is a place to come in, relax, enjoy an European style meal - but DO take the time!

Great meal and service. Loved the German Chocolate Cake, the potato salad, and the mushrooms in particular, but everything was good!

Don't expect real German food. Buy the German stuff from Worldmarket, will taste the same. It's ok, if you don't have an idea of German food, but is not even close in taste. It's a pity because I really love a real Schnitzel. To the owner: go to Germany and taste the difference. Do not open a Restaurant if you don't understand culture or even lived or visit this country. (Info: I specifically asked why they opened a german Restaurant)

Eaten here a few times since they reopened. The chef is great! Lots of fabulous food and great German beer on tap! Love the Octoberfest!

Okay food ... nothing to brag about. The onion soup was delicious, but the Hungarian goulash soup was not good at all. I sent it back, but had to pay for it anyway. Schnitzel and cabbage rolls okay, but nothing special. Spaetzles and potato pancakes very average. We didn't order any alcohol. Poor service, especially for a Friday evening ... and they weren't even busy! Waitress was everywhere but waiting tables. Had to ask for bread, despite it being listed as coming with the meal. Atmosphere okay ... live music (two musicians). A dark basement location, could be nice, but was almost empty when we visited. Wasn't romantic; more like isolated. Won't be back. Except maybe for the onion soup.

Mediocre at best. While the beer selection was decent, the food was decidedly subpar and not especially tasty. Not certain if the food was prepared fresh or not. The server was friendly for the most part.

Our waitress was a little slow (we only ordered soup and salad and thought maybe she forgot to place our order) but overall our experience was great. They had live music (an older couple) which was nice. They did ask if we had a reservation and we said no but they got us a table right away. We did not order more than soup (potato and cabbage, yummy!) and lentil salad (also very good) but the other diners had meals delivered that looked delicious and huge! Oh we did order an appetizer of soft pretzels and beer cheese-amazing!

So many good Hot Springs restaurants have gone away in deference to the franchises that I asked my Facebook friends to recommend a place and this one came highly recommended. Took two friends who grew up eating homemade German and they were blown away. One said it was the best potato pancake she had ever had. Great starter of cheese, sausages and fruit. I'm a sides fanatic and the red cabbage, sauerkraut, cucumber sald and German potato sald were really, really good. All good sausages and roulade and other great entrees. Service was great. And first restaurant in my experience that carried my favorite, Lambic ale. Definitely a winner!

I had the #16 -- Sauerbraten. It was beef that had been marinated for 5 days served with the Red Cabbage and the Potato Pancakes. I really enjoyed the food. The Pancakes were also pretty good.. only I think they could use a bit less garlic. The Cabbage was delicious... and the beef was tasty. I also had a beer here -- which I normally don't drink... but how can you eat German food and not have a beer? LOL. Lots of pork items on the menu, as well as other German Favorites.. such as the Wurst. I was totally stuffed when we left... but otherwise, I wanted to try the German Chocolate Cake.

The restaurant that I remembered was out of business, bought out, and opened back up. I found this out before our trip. It was good to have a leisurely time for dinner, where we could visit and find out the recent history of this restaurant. Michele took time to talk to us not only about the menu items, but upon inquiry that her daughter bought out the previous owner, and that her daughter's husband was the chef. The food was ample, delicious, and more than we were accustomed to for the price; very nice. We are used to not ordering drinks because of the price, but Terri had wine, and I had beer. She had a salad, and I had soup. We both had an entree. Terri had a delicious breaded chicken. I know, because I finished up her meal, She was stuffed. I had pork ribs which was according to the menu marinated for five days. It fell off the bone, and was delicious. We both had red cabbage--very tender. I was skeptical as to whether all was home cooked, or whether some was provided by food service. Michele assured us that the cabbage was home-fermented. Our bill was under $60. The restaurant truly is in a "keller", or cellar. The rock walls, arches, and lighting fixtures are a true enhancement to the ambiance (pardon my French). Once we sat inside and observed, we realized that there is an outside seating area--below other establishments which must envy their position, because only the "Keller" have serving access to this area. You would think that this would translate to higher prices, but, in our opinion, this is not so, as evidenced by our very agreeable bill. I wish Steinhaus Keller was one of our hometown restaurants--we'd be regulars!
